City Of Dallas Victim Of Ransomware Attack

The City of Dallas, Texas has been hit by a ransomware attack which affected several city-wide services on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2023.

The city tells 0day.news that that they received notifications from some monitoring tools within the city’s Security Operations Center (SOC). The notifications indicated that a ransomware attack had been launched on the City’s infrastructure. The city says that the attack affected access to the Dallas Police Department website as well as several other areas. City IT staff and outside contractors are working to isolate the ransomware and prevent it from spreading across the system while also removing the ransomware from infected servers.

Authorities say that while the city is working to assess the total impact of the attack, they note that delivery of City services remains limited. Citizens are urged to contact 311 for regular city services and 911 for emergencies.

As of Thursday, May 4th, 2023, the City of Dallas tells us that most of the services are no longer affected by the ransomware attack.

Witnesses say that several printers in city hall were printing the letter below, which leads security experts to believe Royal is behind the attack.
